What does IA do?
Inclusion Africa and its member organizations’ work is to achieve a lasting and transformative impact on our communities by:
- Building partnerships with other community stakeholders (teachers, employers, donors, cultural and religious groups, traditional authorities, political parties, colleges & universities, media etc.)
- Working with governments to ensure mainstream systems are inclusive (Education, employment, transportation, justice etc.)
Inclusion Africa acts as an agent for change based on five main principles affecting the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and their families:
- Inclusion in all aspects of everyday society
- Full citizenship which respects individual human rights responsibilities
- Self-determination in order to have control over the decisions affecting one’s life
- Family support through adequate services and support networks to families with a member with a disability
- Strengthening the voice of self-advocates and families in their call for inclusion in the community
