Mr. Tamrini is a Tanzanian living in Zanzibar. He has been the Executive Director of the Zanzibar Federation of Disabled People Organisations (SHIJUWAZA) since January 2022. The works with national and international organisations to address the rights and privileges of people with disabilities. He has also been serving as the Vice Chairperson of the Zanzibar Association of People with Disabilities (ZAPDD) since 2012. He started engaging with the disability movement in 2008 when he joined the Zanzibar Association for People with Development Disability (ZAPDD) and became a member of the Muembe Makumbi Branch, in the Urban District of Unguja Island.
He has been working with his colleagues to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities including advocating for law review to ensure those issues that affect persons with intellectual disabilities’ access to the rights in courts of law. He has also engaged in various disability movements to promote inclusion such as being a member of the Global Disability Summit Committee (GDS) under the SHIKUWAZA that facilitated online GDS 2022 events in Zanzibar.
Mr. Tamrini holds a master’s degree in Project Management and has undertaken several trainings in areas of social sustainability and safeguarding which are important fields in advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities. He has a wife and Children – girls and boys, and one of them – the firstborn (a boy) is a person with a developmental disability.
