KNCHR’s Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming Policy Validation Workshop

KNCHR’s Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming Policy Validation Workshop

On 7th August 2015, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), an independent Constitutional Commission National Human Rights Institution in Kenya, convened a stakeholders workshop to validate its draft Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming Policy and Action Plan. Inclusion Africa Coordinator Shikuku Obosi participated in the workshop.

The purpose of the policy and action plan is to provide a comprehensive framework that will enable mainstreaming of gender and other diversities in the programs, operations and processes of the Commission.  Shikuku commended the commission for ensuring  the inclusion of  several references to disability in the draft and called for the ensuring that the final document disaggregates data on disabilities by type as people with intellectual disabilities are often left out even where other disabilities are considered.
