Kenyan Adolescent Girl Advocates’ Special Event
In recognition of the special relations and collaboration between Inclusion Africa and Inclusion International with Plan International, Inclusion Africa Coordinator Shikuku Obosi was invited as a guest at a special event on post 2015 development agenda convened in Nairobi, Kenya, on 12 August 2015.
Plan International Kenya convened the event attended by Kenya’s First Lady H.E. Mrs. Margaret Kenyatta, UN, NGOs and high-ranking government representatives. It was an opportunity for 16 adolescent girl advocates representing the voices of adolescent girls across Kenya, including girls with disabilities, to call on the Kenyan Government to support and endorse the outcome document for the UN Summit in September 2015, which will adopt the Post-2015 Development Agenda. Kenya is one of the 193 United Nations (UN) member states and a member of the UN General Assembly, and has a stake in the outcome of these discussions.
The girls, who are Plan International Kenya advocates, champion issues that affect the girl child including early marriage, female genital mutilation, child labour and gender violence. The girls also used this event to present their Memorandum on Gender Equality and Girls’ Safety to the First Lady H.E. Mrs. Margaret Kenyatta and the Government.
