What is an intellectual disability?
Intellectual disability refers to challenges some people face in learning and often communicating. Typically, present from birth or an early age, persons with intellectual disabilities often require some form of lifelong support. Intellectual disability is distinct from psycho-social disability.
What Challenges Do People with Intellectual Disabilities and their families face in Africa?
Persons with intellectual disabilities and their families in Africa are constantly confronted with staggering levels of unemployment, extreme poverty, inequality and exclusion. Issues of stigmatisation and discrimination continue to be a major challenge.
